On Ngatarawa Road which is about 10 minutes distant, west from both the city of Hastings and the popular village Havelock North, we are privileged offer this very well developed and presented equine complex on 14.49 hectares (or about 36 acres).
This area of the Hastings District is very well known as the ”Ngatarawa Triangle”, an area defined within three roads; Highway 50, Maraekakaho Road and Ngatarawa Road. It is a sought after destination within the “Bay”, well recognised for its high quality horse and livestock production and more recently because of the free draining soils and warm Mediterranean climate; as an important area for premium vineyards and wineries and the triangle has also become an important part of Hawkes Bay’s tourist “wine trail”.
The property has frontage on Ngatarawa Road however the residence, stable blocks, other buildings and most of the grazing land is well set away from the road, accessed by a beautiful mature tree lined drive which, together with many more mature trees give this very attractive property a considerable degree of ambiance and maturity throughout.
The property was developed as a thoroughbred horse breeding stud, the site originally chosen in part for its friable, free draining soils (class 10 Ngatarawa sandy loam and 9a clay loam on Taupo pumice) which are highly suited for grazing, working and training horses. These soils types are also preferred types for premium wine grapes and neighbouring properties have produced grapes for many gold medal and trophy winning wines. The paddocks mostly have secure high post and rail horse and stock fences.
The potential of the property for horses – as well as other livestock or vineyard related purposes, is greatly enhanced by a substantial 200mm artesian bore and an associated water right sufficient to overhead irrigate the entire property through summer months. An underground irrigation line runs through the property and a mobile irrigator and 400 metres of 100 mm aluminium piping are chattels included with the property.
There are two blocks of very soundly constructed horse boxes totalling 20 boxes. These were recently rewired for lighting purposes. There is a feed room, a tack room, a substantial barn with veterinary facilities and general storage and two large three bay hay barns. Adjacent to the stable blocks is a 400 m2 covered lunging arena with lighting and sprinkler system. There are two small staff flats, one with bath, shower, toilet and laundry. There is a 40 tonne grain silo with auger.
For cattle and there are very adequate handling and drafting yards and for horses two loading ramps.
A feature of the property is the spacious, comfortable, modern home which was completed in 2002. This dwelling has a very spacious modern designer kitchen combining with an open plan dining area. There is large, light and spacious living room which like other area of the home is sited and designed to look over the stables and the close by flood-lit foaling and holding paddocks. There are three double and one single bedrooms, the master bedroom having its own ensuite bathroom. There double integral garaging with electric remote controlled doors.
The property is currently specialises as a supervised foaling agistment and thoroughbred weanling raising business and has an excellent reputation in the Hawkes Bay District as such.
